Allergic To Carrots, No EpiPen, And Scared.

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ontario, CA

I have a severe carrot allergy that started 15 years ago. After I developed the allergy (literally overnight) I found myself reacting to other foods such as, sweet potatoes, radishes, turnips, beets, watermelon, cantaloupe, parsnips, and various squashes. I live with my husband's family who seem to not want to understand or help me prevent a reaction. They do not seem to want to understand cross contamination, and they refuse to change their diet so that my kitchen is allergen free. (They like… read more

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭
San Jose, CA

I have bought nut and soy allergy safe baking coco at Whole Foods for years. They stopped selling it. They have also removed basic popcorn telling me they only carry it in bulk now. I do not buy bulk products due to cross contamination. Is anyone else frustrated with the lack of safe foods grocery stores seem to stock. I do not want fan ay packaged/processed foods, these are basic staples. I do not want to take the time to drive to 4-5 stores to find allergy safe pantry staples.

Sunflower Seeds/sunflower Lechithin

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Auburndale, FL

I'm highly allergic to sunflower seeds. I can eat chips cooked in sunflower oil though (for example lays). I am also allergic to wheat, so recently I bought some gluten free donuts from Aldi's. It's the liveGfree brand. One of the ingredients almost on the bottom of the list is sunflower lechithin. I have never heard of it before. Would it be safe to eat the donuts? I'm surely hoping so because I bought 3 boxes.

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member

If it's near the bottom of the list, there's a good chance there's not a lot of it in the donuts. Be safe with a test nibble, then 1/2 a donut. I can eat mayonnaise with no reaction despite all… read more
