Annapolis, MD

Has anyone out there ever lived in the Middle East with a severe sesame allergy?

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member

I haven't, but I could see where that would be a rough combo. I have peanut and tree nut allergies and I had an impossible time finding safe foods in the Middle East.

Safe Deoderant For Peanut And Tree Nut Allergies

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Defham

My 9 year old (Peanut and tree nut allergies) started using natural deoderant (crystal brand) and has not had any problems, though we are now considering trying something a bit stronger and am worried about hidden ingredients that she may be allergic to. She did try Dove sensitive skin antipersperant/deoderant and she did say it stung her skin and could see some redness.

We welcome any suggestions. Thanks!

Dr. Mist is hands down the best natural deodorant I have discovered. I don’t believe it contains any nuts or nut byproduct. No sweat, no smell and it has multiple uses… read more

Local Honey Does Not Cure Hay Fever.

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Hertfordshire

just thought I would start a myth busting post.

honey does not cure hay fever. so buy local honey because you like the taste but don't give it any magical cures okay?

Bees collect pollen from flowers which have larger heavier grain pollens than the ones that cause hay fever.
hay fever is caused by much smaller finer grains of pollen.
a bee may pick up some by accident, but not enough to induce any form of tolerance therapy.

it also does not increase in small amounts the pollen exposure for… read more

Whos Shares My Allergies?

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Edenvale, ZA

I use to eat all forms of fruit, boxes and boxes full of it. As a child I disliked veggies and meat. Then I noticed that I had a allergic reaction to Lici's, Avo's followed and then PawPaws and mellons, now tomatoes are becoming a problem.

At one stage I accidentally at a pizza with avo on it and it did not affect me. i guess because it was cooked. Tomatoes that are cooked are ok too.

The reaction I get is that I cannot breath. This is awful. Does anyone know what does these fruits have in… read more

How To Better Handle Allergies

A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Pretoria, ZA

I am having a hard time handling my allergy. Partly because it's rare and people don't think about what it means and partly because alcohol is EVERYWHERE. I have been trying to be better about always telling waiters that their needs to be no alcohol in my food because I am allergic but i still get ignored alot because they believe the "alcohol cooks off" myth. But even if i manage to avoid it in food I often walk into a bathroom and someone has gone crazy spraying deodorant/perfume and I spend… read more

Because of my reactions to many foods, my family avoids restaurants that ignore or don't care about their customers. And it's not so much a myth as a misstatement of facts about the alcohol cooking… read more
