Your Answers: The Worst Food Allergy Advice (Infographic)

Posted on November 13, 2016

We asked and you answered! We posted this question: What bits of "advice" do you wish people would stop telling you? and you took the time to respond.

What did we learn? From the unconcerned ("He will grow out of it") to the plain unhelpful ("He is just picky"), advice is hurled at us from friends, family, coworkers, even strangers. While most suggestions are probably well-intentioned, hearing them over and over can make us feel that our condition is minimized and misunderstood.

Some of the most common answers we heard:

  • Stop focusing on the allergy and it will subside
  • He/she will grow out of it.
  • Try just a little bit
  • It can’t be that bad
  • He/she is just picky
  • If you keep eating it, you won’t be allergic to it anymore
  • What do you eat? Air?

Everyone's situation is different and not all of these apply to each person. Tell us: What advice about food allergies do YOU wish people would stop telling you?

I don't care what the FDA says Coconuts are. It's apart of my tree nut section and my body hates it regardless. Leave me be.
